Spotlight - Reuben Cottrell
Empowering Creativity in Coventry… In cities filled with young creative talent, the challenge is often not passion, but opportunity. For Reuben, recognising that gap inspired the creation of Fyah Kamp.
Founded in Coventry, the platform works to bridge the gap between learning institutions and the creative industries, helping young people turn artistic talent into sustainable careers.
“A great inspiration to start this platform was the array of talent across my home city Coventry,” Reuben explains. “But there was a lack of support and guidance on how to turn that talent into a career.”
Through Fyah Kamp, young creatives are supported in building industry-ready portfolios across music, media, and immersive arts. The initiative focuses on developing practical skills, industry awareness, and opportunities for collaboration.
One of the platform’s most celebrated projects is its annual awards ceremony, CEL3BRATION, which recognises emerging creatives across the city.
“Our annual awards ceremony sees a city-wide spotlight on nominees and creates an evening where creatives can unite and be proud of their achievements,” Reuben says.
Like many grassroots creative initiatives, resources can be a challenge. However, community support has played a key role in sustaining the work.
“Resources have definitely been a challenge,” Reuben explains. “Seeking support from others who believe in the vision has helped us move forward.”
As part of the Global Change Ambassador network, Reuben values the chance to connect with changemakers across borders.
“There is something special about learning from others doing similar work in different corners of the world,” he says.
Looking ahead, the focus remains on continuing to support the next generation of artists and creators.
“The goal is simple,” Reuben says. “To keep growing and supporting the next generation.”
