Spotlight - Sarah Kittoe

Since receiving her Global Youth Award, Sarah Kittoe has continued to grow as both an author and changemaker, drawing strength not from a single defining milestone, but from the global community she is now part of.

Being connected to young leaders around the world has had a lasting impact on her motivation and outlook.

“The group chat and getting to see all the things people are doing all across the world is really impactful,” she shares. “It pushes me to try to do even more things here.”

Rather than feeling like the end of a chapter, the award has served as a catalyst, encouraging Sarah to deepen her work and think bigger about the difference she can make.

Continuing the Story

Sarah is currently working on her sixth book, inspired by her recent experiences in South Africa.

“I’m working on my sixth book about the Zulu Kingdom, which is based on my adventures in South Africa. I’ve already written one about Ghana — because I’m from both South Africa and Ghana — so this will be my second book focusing on South Africa.”

Her writing continues to be deeply rooted in identity, culture, and lived experience — offering young readers stories that reflect heritage and belonging.

Growing Impact Through Education

Alongside her literary work, Sarah is taking the next steps toward launching her own foundation.

“I’m creating a foundation that will help empower, sustain and educate people all across the globe.”

This vision builds on her earlier work in Tema, Ghana, where she refurbished an existing library and supported the creation of a new one for a local school.

“With my foundation, I hope to do many more projects like that around the world, starting small and growing over the years.”

The foundation reflects Sarah’s long-term commitment to education as a tool for empowerment and sustainable change.

A Lesson in Self-Belief

Through her journey as both an author and changemaker, one lesson has become especially clear.

“You need to believe in yourself… if you truly believe in yourself, you’ll both do it and be motivated to do it, which creates a much better outcome.”

For Sarah, confidence is not just personal — it is foundational to creating meaningful impact.

Inspired by Family and Representation

Much of Sarah’s storytelling is shaped by her personal world.

“One of my biggest inspirations is my family. A lot of my books are based on my family’s values and on adventures I’ve had with them, especially with my sister.”

Representation has also played an important role in shaping her creative direction.

“Another person who really encouraged me is Alesha Dixon. Her books were the first ones that showed me characters who look like me, and that really encouraged me to make my own books.”

Seeing herself reflected in stories helped Sarah realise the importance of creating that same sense of belonging for others.

Looking Ahead

As she works towards launching her foundation within the next two years, Sarah hopes to build on the success of her Ghana library project and expand similar initiatives internationally.

“The library project has helped so much, and we really want to do many more projects like that.”

Powered by Community

Becoming a Global Change Ambassador has also shaped Sarah’s mindset and sense of possibility.

“Seeing how much other young people are doing makes me want to do even more. When I see people around my age doing really good things, it encourages me to step up as well.”

It is this shared sense of purpose that continues to fuel her journey forward. Sarah’s story is a powerful reminder that impact grows through connection, belief, and the courage to keep building.
